1. After the main Ebook Window appears, the title page will be displayed.
2. Now select Browse from the Data Card Menu and the BROWSE Dialog box will appear. From this dialog box, you can select any of six different ways of viewing the image database. Once you select one of the indexes, you can view the contents in the drop down combo box by selecting the down arrow.
3. Once you have made your selection and clicked on the OK button, the Data Card will appear and you can browse through the Data Cards by selecting either the <Next or the Back> buttons. The << and >> buttons jump ten data cards up or down the alphabet. Once you have found a work that you wish to view, you can select the View button to display that particular picture.
4. When a picture is displayed, it may contain a button called Data or Biography (Bio) that will bring up a dialog box with data pertaining to that picture.
5. You may switch from the Text index to a Graphic index of the works on this volume of The Electronic Library of Art. Simply select Option and select Image Browse instead of Text Browse. This brings up a slide table of postage stamp sized images of the works. You may view a work and its associated Data and Bios by placing the magnifying glass cursor over the image you wish and double clicking.
6. Background music from the period is available by selecting the Music option from the Option menu. You may play the music files displayed in the list box. Select the radio buttons for Once or Continuously. This will set up the program to play the selection only once or to loop continuously. Play All selects the entire list. After you have set up your options click on the Play button. The play button changes to Stop while the music is playing. To stop the music simply click on the Stop button. Each music selection is also recorded on the CD-ROM as standard CD-Audio tracks. You may play this music using the Window's Media Player or your home CD Audio player.
IMPORTANT:
Your sound card and its Window's drivers and MIDI map options must be properly set in order for the music to play properly or at all. The Midi files were optimized for the Creative Labs Sound Blaster card. Other cards should work but voices may be limited. If you have trouble getting this feature to work check all the settings to make sure that they are as recommended by the manufacturer of your sound board. If you have trouble with it refer to the sound board documentation or call the sound board manufacturer.
7. The Pictures menu, Cascade option arranges multiple pictures on the screen into a neat pile for easy viewing.
8. We have included a critical essay about the period in art history that this disc covers. The essay is written by a leading art historian. It is available by clicking on the essay icon that was added to Windows when you installed your Electronic Library of Art disc.
OTHER FEATURES
Multiple images can be viewed at the same time, limited only to the available memory in your system. Images can be sized dynamically by simply grabbing any part of the frame of the picture with your mouse and dragging the image larger or smaller. If a Maximize button appears in the image window, it means that the picture is being initially displayed at less than full size. Clicking on the Maximize button will display the image at it's full size. Any of the images can be printed or copied to the clipboard by selecting Copy or Print from the System Menu of the desires image. We know the images will print properly on an HP LaserJet or an HP PaintJet.
